What are your opinions on 2012?
Based on the prophecies and scientific evidence of what is/may be happening in 2 years…how do you feel about it?
And for the people who are telling me to "use the search function"…I DO!I’m not asking for knowledge i’m asking for opinions..LEARN HOW TO READ.

I just firmly planted my face into my palm.

 SpaceBoy360* | Feb 07, 2010

Well I think it’s going to come after 2011 and before 2013.
DVOTA | Feb 07, 2010

There’s no scientific evidence for anything happening. It’s a load of crap. Just like the last 20,000 times this question was asked. Please learn how to use the search function.
eri | Feb 07, 2010

I feel that people should learn to use the search function because there have already been thousands of 2012 questions posted here. The 2012 doomsday theories are unscientific nonsense.
LaurelHS | Feb 07, 2010

things like end of the world theories are odd. this is just like 2000, y2k, end of the world freak out stuff. I think crazy stuff will happen but it will be caused by people who are freakin out. I plan to chill at home and drink some mountain dew.
Robbie | Feb 07, 2010

 Another run and hide theory
.
Something about numbers and mankind
.
Man we humans do lie to make life hard to deal with sometimes when ya try and add it up
.
And for 12-21-2012 to be the next day of destruction is kind of a shot in the room of dark of numbers
and all cause they look alike
.
The bad thing about it is we humans will continue to do it till hell freezes over
.
And we all know that day will never happen
1 eye dog | Feb 07, 2010

Based on scientific evidence, the following events will happen in 2012:

Mars opposition: March 3
Mercury eastern elongation: March 5
Venus eastern elongation: March 25
Saturn opposition: April 15
Mercury western elongation: April 18
Annular eclipse of the Sun: May 20
Partial lunar eclipse: June 4
Venus transit: June 6
Mercury eastern elongation: June 30
Venus western elongation: August 14
Mercury western elongation: August 16
Neptune opposition: August 24
Uranus opposition: September 29
Mercury eastern elongation: October 26
Total eclipse of the Sun: Nov 13
Jupiter opposition: December 2
Mercury western elongation: December 12

As a scientist, I don’t believe in prophesies.

How do I feel? Sad, that our level of scientific education is so low that so many kids are believing this 2012 nonsense, Personally I look forward to a nice opposition of Mars and the transit of Venus, and I may travel to a solar eclipse.
A theory I came up with-

The Mayans disappeared suddenly without a trace.
Maybe they disappeared before they could complete their calendar.
KyleC | Feb 07, 2010

its all BS. Think about all the different end of the world myths and prophecies there have been in the past. Also Y2K in 1999 to 2000.

Anyways, its all crap from paranoid people.
AJ | Feb 07, 2010

I just think of 2012 as another Year.
Theres more proof that it won’t end then it will.
So don’t stress out about it.
Andy E | Feb 07, 2010

nothing will happen. people will think that there are natural disasters leading up to the end of the world, but really it would just be normal for any other year. ill be happy sitting at home watching people get worked up over a volcano eruption and more sunspots on the sun.
Adam | Feb 07, 2010

Well, …, The prophecies you are alluding to are lies base on pure conjecture. There is no, not one shred of scientific evidence even remotely suggesting that 2012 will be anything more than a normal year in the life of our planet. So, here’s my 2012 prediction: …, for some people the world will end, for others it will begin, but for most of us, it will continue. 2012 will be filled with happiness and woe, success and failure, tragedy and triumph just as every year that has been or will be.
digquickly | Feb 07, 2010

There’s no scientific evidence that any big disaster will happen then. There’s just a silly hoax that scientists ridicule.
Venus 1485AD | Feb 07, 2010

The supposed prophets have predicted several different ways the world will end, if there was any truth to it they would all be saying the same thing. Strike One

There is no prophecy from the Mayans. Strike Two

The planets will not line up. Strike Three. They’re out

The next batter is just as bad. No galactic line ups, neutrinos cant heat the core of the Earth, and the Mayans still didn’t make a prophecy.

They have a kid who always enjoys the special imagination of his father. During WWII, the happy family gets swept off to a concentration camp, where the father, in order to make his son believe that the predicament is just an game his family is participating in, uses that very imagination and makes his son believe that it is a game they are playing and the 1st prize is a tank. Various levels of creativity are used by Guido to protect his son in the camp, where the old and the children are killed because they are not strong enough to work.

How do you get over something?
today’s my birthday. i’m 18 and an adult….

but I’m so sad today, I couldn’t care less.

all my ‘childhood’ i have only really ever wanted one thing, my dog.

we were all set to rehome a beautiful boy last week but things happened and we didn’t. he was everything I have been looking for in a dog for all my life, everything!! he is being rehomed by other people.

i can’t think about it because it breaks my heart to think that someone else will call him theirs, and stupidly i still keep thinking about him as my own. maybe just maybe, we might still be able to be his family, but of course that is not going to happen.

please, how do you move on? i should be happy today but all i keep on thinking about is how i’m 18 and still not complete.
Sam your right. i know he will be loved just as much by his new family. he deservs the best.

maybe he just wasn’t meant for me. im sure there is a dog somewhere that will make me feel all those things and more

You’re 18 years old. To be honest, you haven’t even really lived yet!
You’ve got days, months, years to get a dog. Go to another animal shelter and look around. You’ll find your dog soon!
You just do move on. Sh|t happens but that’s not as bad as it could be.
Think about his happiness. Maybe he is happy in this new house and new family (despite whether you don’t want to think of that or not)… he’s not yours, but there is one in a lonely animal shelter starving for a family and a person like you to love.

A logic question on the idea of religious tolerance, equality and acceptance in relation to conversion?
First off, I’m not alluding to any particular religion here, nor am I questioning religion itself. So please, all atheists don’t simply tell me that it’s all humbug cos that’s not what the question is about. And all theists, please refrain from trying to convert me or from competing with each other. This is a question about a logical consequence and whether it holds true or not. Please answer me with a logical explanation of your stand, either agree or disagree, so that I can get different points of view.

Right, well. I’m wondering about the widespread practice of trying to convert members of other faiths and how there seems to be an inconsistency between that practice and the idea of universal tolerance, acceptance and equality of religions(I know that not everyone buys that stand, but it is the politically correct international stand on the issue). That "Truth is one, Paths are many" and "There are many diverse roads that lead unto Me" dictum.

First off, equality. If you seek to convert someone from one religion to another, then aren’t you automatically assuming your religion to be somehow superior? After all, if your religion wasn’t in some way better, then why would you seek to convert anyone? This leads on to acceptance. If we take the first to be an accurate logical argument, then how could and any moral person, seeking to help and assist his fellow man, possibly allow them to labor under an inferior belief system? Isn’t he under an obligation then to disparage the other faith. And so on to tolerance. Quite simply, how could anyone be tolerant of an inferior belief system? Shouldn’t they strive to eradicate it, within the constraints of non-violence, etc. prescribed by their faith? Shouldn’t they be passively hostile towards it and attempt to "convert it away" or some other such method?

CONVERSELY, if we accept the argument above but take the side of religious equality, then aren’t conversion attempts of all kinds(made by others to you) unjustified as they contradict that principle?

PLEASE NOTE: FIRST, I am not trying to justify religious intolerance and persecution here. This is a logical argument test, with no religious connotations at all. SECOND, by "conversions", I mean when others try to convert you, not when you decide, on your own, to convert to a different faith. Thanks.

Not all (or even most) religious agree about tolerance and equality — those are secular values — so no it’s not a logical contradiction.
RatZ | Mar 15, 2010

first of all there is no one true path but what you, yourself make true of it.second you try to convert people to your religion cuz you are told to. and your mind is so weak you actually do it.third you should not bring faith while helping a person never. if your going to help help regardless their spiritual belief. fourth tolerance begins in knowing the person not the race not the religion not the gender not the sexual preference.fifth when ever a religion is in danger the always have war. remember the holy war.and the sixth one. god lives in your heart not in all these other religions that just take take take and seldomly give back
vampiro101 | Mar 15, 2010

i dont think it is logical for a religion to preach equality, tolerance, and acceptance of other religions and then practice proselytism. i tend to think that the only way for religion to be practiced in a way that lives up to these virtues, is for it to be a personal practice that does is not pushed on to other people. i dont think that the founders of these religions that preach these qualities intended for their religions to be viewed as superior to other religions, but the humans who practice them, perhaps subconsciously, believe that they are superior to other humans who think differently from them and because they know best it is their duties to save the rest. i dont have animosity towards people who practice religion in general, but it irritates me when i am looked down upon for not believing in a religion even though i practice the values of the religion more consistently than those looking down on me.

@Ratz: i dont think these are exclusively secular values. christianity and islam preach these qualities. buddhism takes it so far that it will accept someone as a buddhist who continues to practice a different religion. christianity preaches these qualities but also proselytizes. i think this may come from jesus telling his followers to "spread the good news" in the bible. however, i think his message has been grossly perverted over the years. jesus did not try to convert anybody. he just lived his life according to his values and others followed on their own. he didnt befriend the tax collector, the leper, or the prostitute because he was trying to convert them. he simply showed unconditional love to everybody regardless of what they believed or even what they did. i think this love and understanding for other people was the good news he was referring to rather than a specific religious doctrine. the contradiction came later when people decided to interpret this message in a way that suited their agendas. and the rest is history: the crusades, spanish inquisition, the ex-communications, the selling of indulgences (a ticket to heaven) to the poor, papal infallibility (the ones who were responsible for most of these atrocities).
Marc | Mar 15, 2010

Holding a Christian worldview, I can only speak on its behalf. Some Christians may have different beliefs than this, but they likely do not have a great understand of the Bible if they do.
As a Christian believer, I do not hold the belief that anybody can cause another person to truly come to Christ. Only the Holy Spirit has that power. I can guide or lead that person toward acceptance of Christ, or I can just simply ask a question to stimulate thinking in that person. But only the Holy Spirit working in that individual can actually change a person’s heart in that way.
As for my tolerance with other religions, I do not promote them in anyway but if God did not want them here then he would handle it I’m sure. God’s commandment to each of us is to act in love. Without love, I achieve nothing.
Joe | Mar 15, 2010

I think it depends on the religion as well. I do agree to some of the comments above about Christianity and Judaism, but I know that the Baha’i Faith is open to other people’s religions. But I do feel that most religions do have a superiority complex about the conversion to their faiths, and it’s obviously an issue now in society and in the world. However, you do need to consider if equality is even a principle in a certain religion; it may not be, which is why it might not be considered contradictory. Not all religions believe in the "truth is one, paths are many" ideology.

Was it common for Canadian women to have unshaved legs and to go without underwear during the 70s?
This may seem like a strange question, but there is a reason why I’m asking it. In 1976, an unidentified attractive young couple were found shot to death on a dirt road in Sumter County, South Carolina. One thing that was noticed about the couple was that they both didn’t wear underwear and that the woman had unshaved legs. Authorities believe that the couple may have been well-to-do and possibly from another country. At one point during the investigation, a man came forward claiming that he had met a couple fitting the description of Sumter County John and Jane Doe, and that the guy he met was named "Jock" or "Jacques" and claimed to be the son of a prominent doctor in Canada who had disowned him for giving up his own medical career. Most American women during the 70s shaved their legs. Did very many Canadian women go commando or have unshaved legs during the 70s, and is it possible that our John and Jane Doe are the Canadian doctor’s son and his girlfriend?
Oh man you’re funny.
I would call that more of a personal choice than a cultural one. Remember, the hippies weren’t long before that so she could have been one, my mom was a canadian woman in the 70’s and i’m pretty sure she would never have considered going commando with hairy legs.

TMZ says Miley Cyrus dead?
To quote the TMZ website;

"At 7:31 PM, January 30th, Miley Cyrus was shot and killed after an hour-long standoff between police officers and armed gunmen. Cyrus was apparently taken hostage in an Los Angeles bank, after masked robbers burst inside, shooting a security guard to death. Ten minutes after Cyrus’s death, the situation was over.

The First Bank of America, on Fifty Seventh Street, was stormed by three gunmen armed with stolen AK-47s, heavy homemade body armor, and improvised explosive devices. Cyrus was inside at the time, and was grabbed by one of the robbers after the plan to breach the vault apparently failed. Police arrived on the scene, and a tense standoff took place for over an hour. Police sharpshooter Clancy Shenanigan was given the order to shoot one of the criminals standing outside, negotiating with police at the time. Shenanigan’s shot instantly killed the man with a head shot, and a SWAT team burst through the back simultaneously. The robbers shot Cyrus, who was at the time being used as a human shield, and exchanged gunfire with the police until both robbers were incapacitated.

Bank guard Rick Roll was pronounced dead when the police finally cleared the bank. Also among the dead were Cyrus, and two of the robbers, their identities unknown at this time. The third robber, Ukrainian-immigrant Herd Uliek Mudkips, is currently in the hospital, with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs. Another hostage, bank teller Bames Jond, is also in the hospital, with minor bruises."

Some quick questions about plants?
1: I have 4 cactuses for a few years and I’m not sure if they’re dead. The ends of their pines are a different color, maybe they’re dead? I just hate to throw out plants that are alive?

2: One plant, when it’s leaves fall off they turn into new plants. I was changing the soil and a lot of leaves fell off because he’s sick, so I put them in a cup of water. Should this be in a hot or cold space? Sunlight or no? Seperate cups or 1?
3: Any tips on the sick plant? His roots look over-wet but the sprout above soil looks healthy.

(What I did with the last one was put a stick in the soil and tied it to the stick, so I did the same but I’m not sure if it’ll help.)
I’m not too sure what it’s called. My camera is busted by this is what the first plant looked like when I bought it:
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x259/ jimmyThePipe/cactus.jpg

If the cacti are truly dead, they’ll be dry, brown, and probably shriveled.

I can’t give advice with certainty about your second question because you don’t say what the plant is, but it sounds like a succulent, maybe a jade plant (Google it for an image, to identify it). Jade plants are propagated from stem cuttings and leaves, but just stick them in moist soil instead of water. Room temperature’s fine, and in bright, indirect light–no direct sun. Separate pots will make potting up easier with less stress to the babies.

Repotting a sick plant is seldom a good idea because it’s already stressed. The exception is in the case of root rot caused by chronic overwatering. Let the top inch or so of the soil dry between waterings, water until it runs out the bottom of the pot, and then let it get dry again. Never let it sit in a saucer of water. If you tend to overwater a lot, use clay pots instead of plastic or ceramic. This is true for succulents, but not all house plants. If you can post a photo, we can give you better advice.

The stick as a support is fine until the root system is established enough to support the plant on its own. Add it when repotting if possible, to avoid further root damage. Hope this helps…
